Retouching

Here are some examples of the retouching I routinely do on all photos. People usually want wrinkles, acne and blemishes removed, and eye cleanup. As my wife says, "Weddings should show the best you." I think little things, like stains on the steps or (my pet peeve) glaring green exit signs, can mar an otherwise pretty photo. You do not notice them until you see the retouched version. Then people usually go, "Oooooh! That looks much better!" The only things I cannot change (easily) are your pose and expression. This makes the actual photo shoot much less stressful since we all have less to worry about.

Most of these examples are full-resolution cropped versions of the original photos. So if you view the "original" size version of the images, you will see the level of detail I shoot and work at (Warning: original size images are large - 1920x1200).

Original is on the left/top, retouched on right/bottom.

Removed dead leaves and duck feathers from the lawn.
3 / 12

Removed dead leaves and duck feathers from the lawn.

  • Removed people from the background. That was a different wedding party behind them.
  • Erase pillars, erase PVC filler pipe in background, change lake color from green to blue, change background rock color from grey to pinkish sand.
  • Removed dead leaves and duck feathers from the lawn.
  • Skin cleanup, smoothed, added highlighting and shadows, then converted to B&W
  • Erased wrinkles around eyes, and capillary in her right eye. Softened under eyes. Misc spot removal.
  • Contrast, color and exposure correction. Fixed lipstick, removed lipstick on teeth, smoothed throat area, smoothed jawline, removed all skin blemishes, removed wrinkles around eyes, removed capillary in left eye.
  • Changed her outfit's color so it would stand out more from the background.
  • Changes requested by couple: Change bridge to darker brown, add rail to hide feet, and make water bluer. I also erased the yellow sign in the background and cleaned up their faces.
  • A just-for-fun edit for the couple. They wanted a sunset background. I have taken hundreds of photos of the sunset at the beach so I found one that had the correct perspective and composited them in while preserving the tile floor and bench.
  • She was pretty flawless to begin with but she wanted her freckles removed. Softened shadows under eyes. I also changed the brightness/exposure of just her so she stood out more without blowing out the view out the window. Also, rotated her left eye just a bit so it did not look so funky.
  • Groom requested removal of microphone cord.
  • Erased myself from the mirror.
